About

Previously named Web Accessibility Designs Philippines, this website is now dedicated to archiving all websites designed by MCCID students. More than thirty (30) websites were designed by the students as part of their thesis requirements for graduation.

Web Accessibility Designs Philippines is an offshoot of initiatives done by Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf Foundation, Inc. to promote Web Accessibility. Although it started in 2003 during the Interregional Workshop held in Manila, Philippines, web accessibility only gained mileage from the regional workshops sponsored by the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, National Computer Center – Commission on Information and Communication Technology, and Vision Office Limited.

The MCCID webmasters Jojo I. Esposa Jr. and Ervin R. Reyes (deaf) attended the first workshop held at Tagaytay City, Cavite in 2004. Aware of the needs of web accessibility and international web standards initiative, they both renovated the school’s website and applied what they learned during the workshops.

Jojo and Ervin were both web designers and trainors for the deaf since 1997. Ervin even won the bronze medal in the Web Page Design Category during the 6th International Abilympics Skills Competition held in New Delhi, India in 2003. Jojo was his coach and sign language interpreter. They are also skilled in designing Flash animated websites, Photoshop, video-graphics, and ASP. Ervin supervised the designing of free websites linked here while Jojo acted as their adviser.

Through the sponsorship of MCCID, they both attended series of workshops held in many parts of the country.

It is hoped that through these humble projects, Web Accessibility will gain enough foothold in the Philippines’ web landscape.

What is MCCIDONLINE.NET now MCCIDONLINE.COM

mccidonline.net is the first paid domain name address used by Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf Foundation, Inc. (MCCID) which was purchased on August 31, 2000. It was been the official website address of the foundation for more than five years until February 2006 when it changed to www.mccid.edu.ph indicating an established educational institution in the Philippines.

After 2006, the web address was continued and maintained. It has been used to promote web accessibility in the Philippines. The logo of two hands with middle fingers aligning each other is the Filipino Sign Language for Internet or contact using the Internet.

However, due to the pandemic, the ".net" domain name was not automatically renewed and internet sharks immediately grabbed the name and used it for online gamblings, etc.

In order to preserve the contents of the site, we decided to purchase a ".com" domain name in 2021 that we now use.
